Quran Text — Al-Hijr

15:1 Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Scripture—a Quran that explains with clarity.

15:2 Perhaps those who disbelieve would wish that they had been Submitters.

15:3 Let them eat, enjoy, and let false hope distract them. Soon they will know.

15:4 We’ve never destroyed a community that didn’t have a known term.

15:5 No community can accelerate or postpone its appointed time.

15:6 They said, “O you to whom the reminder was revealed, you are surely deranged.”

15:7 “Why don’t you bring us the angels, if you are truthful?”

15:8 We only send down angels in truth, and they wouldn’t be restrained.

15:9 Surely, it is We who revealed the Message, and it is We who will preserve it.

15:10 We sent messengers before you to the ancient communities.

15:11 Yet every messenger that came to them was ridiculed.

15:12 Thus, We subtly instill it into the hearts of the criminals.

15:13 They will not have faith in it, though the ways of the ancients have passed away.

15:14 Even if we were to open up a gate into heaven for them, and they kept ascending through it.

15:15 They would still say, “Our eyes are tricked; we are under a spell.”

15:16 We positioned constellations in the sky, and We beautified it for the observers.

15:17 And We protected it from every accursed devil.

15:18 Except those who stealthily eavesdrop; a piercing flame pursues them.

15:19 And We spread the earth, and placed stabilizers upon it, and fostered balanced growth within it.

15:20 We made it a habitat for you and for those you don’t sustain.

15:21 There is not a thing but that with Us are its storehouses, and We dispense it in known measure.

15:22 We send winds as pollinators, and We bring down water from the sky, providing you with it to drink. You don’t possess its reserves.

15:23 It is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritors.

15:24 We know those among you who advance, and we know those who lag behind.

15:25 Your Lord will gather them all; He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

15:26 We created man from clay, from molded mud.

15:27 Beforehand, We created the jinn from scorching fire.

15:28 Your Lord told the angels, “I am creating a human being from clay, from molded mud.”

15:29 “Once I have shaped him and breathed into him of My Spirit, fall in prostration before him.”

15:30 So, all the angels prostrated themselves collectively.

15:31 Except for Iblis, he refused to be among those who prostrated.

15:32 He asked, “O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating with those who prostrated?”

15:33 He replied, “I will not prostrate to a human You created from clay, from molded mud.”

15:34 He said, “Depart from here, for you are a banished outcast.

15:35 And the curse will be upon you until Judgment Day.”

15:36 He pleaded, “My Lord, delay me until the Day they’re resurrected.”

15:37 He responded, “You are granted delay.

15:38 Until the appointed day and time.”

15:39 “Lord,” he declared, “since you have lured me away, I will glamorize for them on earth, and I will lure them all away.”

15:40 Except for Your chosen servants among them.”

15:41 He replied, “This is a straight path to Me.

15:42 You have no sway over My devotees, except those who follow you of the deviators.

15:43 And hell is promised to them all.

15:44 It has seven gates. For every gate, there is a designated portion of them.

15:45 The righteous will be in gardens and springs.”

15:46 “Enter it in peace, securely.”

15:47 We will remove from their hearts all ill feelings; they will be brethren, lounging on couches, facing one another.

15:48 No fatigue will touch them there, nor will they ever be asked to leave.

15:49 Inform My beings that I am the Forgiving, the Merciful.

15:50 And that My punishment is the painful punishment.

15:51 Relate to them the story of Abraham’s guests.

15:52 When they entered his presence, they greeted him with “Peace.” He responded, “We are uneasy about you.”

15:53 They reassured him, “Fear not; we bring you good news of a wise son.”

15:54 He asked, “How can you bring such news, given my advanced age? So what gives you this good news?”

15:55 They replied, “Indeed, we bring you truthful news, so don’t lose hope.”

15:56 He said, “None despairs of his Lord’s mercy except those who have strayed.”

15:57 He then inquired, “What’s your mission, O messengers?”

15:58 They replied, “We’ve been sent to a people steeped in sin.”

15:59 “Except for Lot’s family—we will rescue them all.”

15:60 “Except for his wife.” We had decreed that she would be among those left behind.

15:61 When the messengers came to Lot’s family.

15:62 He said, “You are a people unknown to me.”

15:63 They replied, “We brought you what they’ve been doubting.”

15:64 “We’ve brought you the truth, and indeed, we are truthful.”

15:65 “Leave with your family during the cover of night, and follow their footsteps. Let none of you look back, and proceed as instructed.”

15:66 We informed him of this mandate: “The last remnants of these people will be cut off by morning.”

15:67 And the people of the city came rejoicing.

15:68 He pleaded, “These are my guests, so don’t dishonor me.”

15:69 “And fear Allah, and don’t embarrass me.”

15:70 They replied, “Didn’t we forbid you from strangers?”

15:71 He responded, “These are my daughters, if you must act.”

15:72 By your life, they were in their intoxication, blundering.

15:73 Then, the blast seized them at sunrise.

15:74 We turned it upside down, and We rained upon them stones of baked clay.

15:75 In this, there are signs for those who discern.

15:76 It was located on an established road.

15:77 In that is a sign for the believers.

15:78 The inhabitants of the wooded valley were also wrongdoers.

15:79 So, We exacted retribution from them. Both were visible from the main road.

15:80 Similarly, the inhabitants of the Rocky Tract rejected the messengers.

15:81 We presented them with Our signs, but they turned away from them.

15:82 They used to carve secure homes into the mountains.

15:83 Yet, the sudden blast seized them at dawn.

15:84 All that they had acquired availed them not.

15:85 We created the heavens and the earth, and what lies between them, with truth. The Hour is certainly coming, so overlook with beautiful forgiveness.

15:86 Surely your Lord, He is the Creator, the All-Knowing.

15:87 We’ve given you seven pairs, and the Grand Quran.

15:88 Don’t extend your eyes towards what We gave certain classes of them to enjoy, and don’t grieve over them. Instead, show kindness to the believers.

15:89 Say, “I am the clear warner.”

15:90 Just as We had revealed to the separatists.

15:91 Those who made the Quran into shreds.

15:92 By your Lord, We will surely interrogate them all.

15:93 About what they used to do.

15:94 So proclaim what you’re commanded, and turn away from the idolaters.

15:95 We are sufficient for you against the mockers.

15:96 Those who set up another deity with Allah—they will find out.

15:97 We know that what they say causes you distress.

15:98 So, glorify your Lord with praise, and be of the ones who bow down.

15:99 And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
