As-Saffat

Quran Text — As-Saffat

37:1 By the aligners aligning.

37:2 And the drivers driving.

37:3 And those conveying the message.

37:4 Your God is certainly One.

37:5 Lord of the heavens, the earth, and everything between them, and Lord of the sunrises.

37:6 We adorned the nearest heaven with the beauty of stars.

37:7 And as a protection from every defiant devil.

37:8 They can’t eavesdrop on the Highest Assembly, for they get pelted from every side.

37:9 Repelled, they will face perpetual torment.

37:10 Except for one who snatches a snatch; he is pursued by a piercing flame.

37:11 Ask them, “Are they more difficult to create, or those We created?” We created them from sticky clay.

37:12 Yet you are amazed, and they mock.

37:13 When reminded, they pay no heed.

37:14 When they see a sign, they mock.

37:15 And they say, “This is nothing but apparent magic.

37:16 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, will we be resurrected?

37:17 And our ancient ancestors as well?”

37:18 Say, “Yes, and you’ll be subdued.”

37:19 It will be just a single shout, and behold, they will be staring.

37:20 They will exclaim, “Woe to us! This is Judgement Day.”

37:21 “This is the Day of Separation, which you used to deny.”

37:22 Round up those who did wrong, their partners, and what they used to worship.

37:23 Apart from Allah, and guide them to the way to Hell.

37:24 But stop them, for they are to be questioned.”

37:25 What’s the matter with you that you don’t help each other?

37:26 But, on this day, they will be in submission.

37:27 And they will turn on one another, blaming each other.

37:28 Some will say, “You used to come to us from the right.”

37:29 The others will respond, “No, you yourselves were not believers.

37:30 We had no authority over you; you were a transgressing people.

37:31 So now the word of our Lord has come true against us. We are tasting it.

37:32 We seduced you; we were seducers.”

37:33 On that Day, they will share in the punishment.

37:34 This is how We deal with sinners.

37:35 When they were told, “There is no god but Allah,” they exhibited arrogance.

37:36 And they said, “Shall we leave our gods for a mad poet?”

37:37 He came with the truth and confirmed the messengers.

37:38 You will surely taste the severe punishment.

37:39 And you will only be recompensed for what you used to do.

37:40 Except for the chosen servants of Allah.

37:41 For them, there will be a known provision.

37:42 Fruits, and they will be honored.

37:43 In the Gardens of Delights.

37:44 On thrones, facing one another.

37:45 A cup filled with a drink of pure pleasure will be passed among them.

37:46 Crystal-clear, delicious to those who drink.

37:47 Causing neither headache nor intoxication.

37:48 And with them will be women restraining their glances.

37:49 As though they were protected pearls.

37:50 They will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

37:51 A speaker among them will say, “I had a close companion.

37:52 Who would say, ‘Are you among those who believe?

37:53 That when we die and become dust and bones, we will be held accountable?’”

37:54 He will then ask, “Would you care to look?”

37:55 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.

37:56 He exclaimed, “By Allah, you nearly led me astray!

37:57 If not for the mercy of my Lord, I would’ve been among those presented.”

37:58 “We are not to die.

37:59 Except for our first death, and we aren’t to be punished.”

37:60 Indeed, this is the great achievement.

37:61 For such, let the workers work.

37:62 Isn’t this a better hospitality than that of the Tree of Bitterness?

37:63 We made it an ordeal for the unjust.

37:64 It’s a tree that sprouts from the core of Hellfire.

37:65 Its buds are like the heads of devils.

37:66 From it, they will eat and fill their stomachs.

37:67 Then, they will have a mixture of scalding brew.

37:68 Then, their return will be to the flaming Inferno.

37:69 They found their ancestors astray.

37:70 And they rushed upon their footsteps.

37:71 Most of the earlier generations before them had also deviated.

37:72 Even though We had sent warners among them.

37:73 See, then, the end of those who were warned.

37:74 Except for the sincere servants of Allah.

37:75 When Noah implored Us—excellent indeed are We in answering!

37:76 We saved him and his family from the great disaster.

37:77 We made his descendants to be those who remained.

37:78 And We preserved his story for those who would come later.

37:79 Peace be upon Noah among all the nations.

37:80 Thus, do We reward those who do good.

37:81 He was one of Our faithful servants.

37:82 Then We drowned the others.

37:83 And among his descendants was Abraham.

37:84 When he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

37:85 He asked his father and his people, “What do you worship?

37:86 Do you prefer false idols over Allah?

37:87 What’s your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?”

37:88 He then gazed at the stars.

37:89 And he said, “I feel unwell.”

37:90 So they turned away from him, retreating.

37:91 He turned towards their gods and said, “Do you not eat?”

37:92 What is with you that you don’t speak?”

37:93 He then launched a strike against them with his right hand.

37:94 They approached him, rushing toward him.

37:95 He countered, “Do you worship what you carve?

37:96 While it is Allah who created you and all that you make?”

37:97 They responded, “Build a furnace for him, and throw him into the flames.”

37:98 So they hatched a scheme against him, but We made them the inferiors.

37:99 He said, “I will be departing to my Lord; He will guide me.”

37:100 “My Lord, grant me righteous offspring.”

37:101 So We gave him the good news of a forbearing son.

37:102 When he was old enough to work with him, he said, “O my son, I saw in a dream that I’m sacrificing you, so see what you think?” He replied, “O my father, do as you’re commanded; you will find me, if Allah wills, one of the patient.”

37:103 And when they had submitted, he put him down upon his forehead.

37:104 But We called out to him, “O Abraham!

37:105 You have fulfilled the vision.” Thus, do We reward those who do right.

37:106 That was a significant test.

37:107 And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.

37:108 And We left for him favorable mention among later generations.

37:109 Peace be upon Abraham.

37:110 Thus do We reward those who do good.

37:111 He was one of Our faithful servants.

37:112 And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous.

37:113 We blessed him and Isaac. However, some are righteous among their descendants, while some clearly wrong themselves.

37:114 We also favored Moses and Aaron.

37:115 We saved them and their people from the great calamity.

37:116 We supported them, and they emerged as victors.

37:117 We gave them the Scripture that sheds light.

37:118 And We guided them on the straight path.

37:119 We left for them a favorable mention among later generations.

37:120 Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.

37:121 Thus do We reward those who do good.

37:122 They were among Our believing servants.

37:123 Elijah was also one of the messengers.

37:124 When he said to his people, “Will you not embrace righteousness?

37:125 Do you call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators?

37:126 Allah is your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors.”

37:127 But they rejected him, and they will be apprehended.

37:128 Except for Allah’s chosen servants.

37:129 We left for him a favorable mention among later generations.

37:130 Peace be upon Elijah.

37:131 Thus do We reward those who do good.

37:132 He was one of Our believing servants.

37:133 And Lot was among the messengers.

37:134 We saved him and his entire family.

37:135 Except an elderly woman who was among those left behind.

37:136 Then We destroyed the rest.

37:137 You pass by them in the morning.

37:138 And at night. Will you not then reflect?

37:139 Jonah was also among the messengers.

37:140 When he fled onto the laden ship.

37:141 He gambled and lost.

37:142 A whale swallowed him, and he was to blame.

37:143 Had he not been of those who praised.

37:144 He would’ve remained in its belly until the Day they’re raised.

37:145 Then We threw him into the open, and he was ill and weak.

37:146 And We made a gourd plant grow over him.

37:147 Then, We sent him to a hundred thousand or more.

37:148 They believed, so We gave them enjoyment for some time.

37:149 Now ask them their opinion: “Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?”

37:150 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnessing?

37:151 They are speaking from their conjecture when they say.

37:152 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars, definitely.

37:153 Does He prefer daughters over sons?

37:154 What’s the matter with you? How do you judge?

37:155 Won’t you reflect?

37:156 Or do you have clear authority?

37:157 Then produce your scripture, if you are truthful.

37:158 And they made up a relationship between Him and the jinn, yet the jinn know well that they will be summoned.

37:159 Exalted is Allah, above what they describe.

37:160 Except for Allah’s select servants.

37:161 Neither you nor those you worship.

37:162 Can’t seduce away from Him.

37:163 Except those destined for Hell’s embrace.

37:164 “There is none among us but has a known position.

37:165 We are those who stand in rows.

37:166 And we are the praisers.”

37:167 And they used to say.

37:168 “If we had a sermon from the ancients.

37:169 We would’ve been Allah’s faithful servants.”

37:170 Yet, they disbelieved it; they will soon come to know.

37:171 Our word has already been conveyed to Our chosen servants.

37:172 Definitely, they are the ones who will be victorious.

37:173 Surely, Our forces will be the victors.

37:174 So leave them for a while.

37:175 Observe, they will soon witness.

37:176 Are they eager for Our punishment?

37:177 When it descends on their yard, how terrible will be the morning for those who were warned.

37:178 So turn away from them for a while.

37:179 And watch; they soon will see.

37:180 Praised is your Lord, the Lord of Glory, beyond their description.

37:181 And peace be upon the messengers.

37:182 And praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universes.
