Al-Ma'arij

Quran Text — Al-Ma'arij

70:1 A questioner asked for a punishment bound to happen.

70:2 For the unbelievers, there is none to avert it.

70:3 From Allah, the Lord of the ascending pathways.

70:4 The angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him, on a Day that spans fifty thousand years.

70:5 So, be patient with a beautiful patience.

70:6 They perceive it as far off.

70:7 But We see it as near.

70:8 On that Day, the sky will resemble molten copper.

70:9 And the mountains will appear like tufts of wool.

70:10 No friend will ask of a friend.

70:11 Although they will be shown to each other, the criminal would wish to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by offering his children.

70:12 And his girlfriend and his brother.

70:13 And his family that sheltered him.

70:14 And all the people on earth, if it would only save him.

70:15 No indeed! It is a blazing flame.

70:16 Stripping away the scalps.

70:17 Calling those who turned their backs and fled.

70:18 And hoarded and stored away.

70:19 Man was created anxious.

70:20 Agitated when misfortune touches him.

70:21 And tight-fisted when good reaches him.

70:22 Except for those who pray.

70:23 Who remain constant in their prayers.

70:24 And in whose wealth is a known right.

70:25 For the asker and the deprived.

70:26 And those who affirm the Day of Judgment.

70:27 And those who fear their Lord’s punishment.

70:28 Their Lord’s punishment isn’t to be underestimated.

70:29 And those who guard their purity.

70:30 Except for their spouses and those they rightfully possess, for then they are not to be blamed.

70:31 But those who seek anything beyond that are the trespassers.

70:32 And those who keep to their trusts and promises.

70:33 And those who stand by their testimonies.

70:34 And those who are diligent in their prayers.

70:35 These will be in Gardens, honored.

70:36 So, why do these unbelievers rush headlong towards you, from every direction?

70:37 From the right and from the left, in droves?

70:38 Does each one of them aspire to be admitted into a Garden of Bliss?

70:39 No indeed! We created them from what they know.

70:40 By the Lord of the sunrises and the sunsets, We are Able.

70:41 To replace them with others better than them. We are not overtaken.

70:42 So, let them indulge and play until they encounter their promised Day.

70:43 The Day they will rush out from the graves, as if they were racing towards a goal post.

70:44 Their eyes will be humbled, humiliation will overshadow them. This is the Day they were promised.
